Good Neighbor Days

A group of dedicated volunteers works hard to ensure that Howard Lake’s Good Neighbor Days festival is full of fun for all ages. The event takes place annually.

Good Neighbor Days 2017 will be from June 22 to 25.

In 2016, Good Neighbor Days took place at the Wright County Fairgrounds – a new location for the festivities.

The fun began Thursday with a queen’s tea party and the kick-off dinner at Codger’s Cove.

Friday’s events included a Home Depot Kids Clinic, a Wright County K9 unit demonstration, live music, a car show, and fireworks.

Saturday continued with a fishing contest at Lions Park, a kiddie parade, a bee demonstration, kids carnival, and the John Deere Day of Play, which includes tractor rides, door prizes, and assorted activities for kid’s.

The annual one-block run took place Saturday morning at the fairgrounds.

A dunk tank was a new feature of the event, the annual bean bag tournament took place at the fairgrounds, and the library featured a book sale, while food was served in the community room.

The turtle races on Saturday are a Howard Lake tradition. This year, the races were held near the grandstand at the fairgrounds.

Throughout the weekend, Orphans baseball tournaments and Pee Wee baseball tournaments took place at Memorial Park and Yager Field.

Sunday began with the 5k Walk/Run For the Lakers, and was followed by breakfast at Memorial Park. S&H Pine Car races were added to the event in 2016, and took place throughout the afternoon.

The Grande Day Parade filled the early afternoon, and the firemen’s waterball tournament followed shortly after near the fire station.

Children tested their pedal strength at the kiddie pedal pull, and royalty candidates were crowned Sunday evening.

An archery event, “Happily Ever After Characters” meet and greet, and bingo also took place Saturday afternoon.

Each day included bounce houses for children, beverages for adults, and food for all.

Raffle tickets and carnival prizes were drawn Sunday, following the coronation.
